Good evening from the delightful Eastern Shore of Maryland. What can I possibly say about the events of the last few days? There certainly is never a dull moment here at the secret location. Just when you think it couldn’t get any crazier, Mother Nature does it again. I guess she didn’t like the name of my last blog, and you really can’t fool Mother Nature. So this whole situation is probably my fault, please accept my apology, Mother Nature!
I had all intentions of writing a nice story full of descriptive photographs about the very cool banding operation that went on here last Friday. As you probably know, Craig Koppie, assisted by Crazy Osprey Man and friends, banded our two chicks. The larger of the two chicks has red tape on the band. Mr. Koppie thinks that chick is a female, so we gave her the more feminine sounding name, Montana (after all, it does end in an “a”). The yellow banded chick is probably a male, so by default he is now known as Maine. These names were nominated by members of the Chesapeake Conservancy’s Osprey Club after two nests in (you guessed it), Maine and Montana, and were voted on by the osprey-watching public. None of the eggs or chicks from those two nests survived, so the names were chosen in their memory. Thank you all for voting. Yes, I had suggested Oliver and Annie in an earlier blog and still like those names, but Maine and Montana are great names and a tribute to all the chicks that will not be making the trip South this fall.
So, as I was coming up with a catchy title for the banding blog (and I still intend on using the great name that popped into my head), something extraordinary happened at our nest. Sunday afternoon, as many of you were watching our ospreycam, a visitor appeared at the nest. It was a young fledgling who had probably just taken one of his (my choice of pronouns) first flights. As I have mentioned in the past, there are many osprey nests surrounding our neighborhood. We theorize that when the chick took this flight, possibly even his first flight, he landed in our nest by accident. Over the years, we have seen newly fledged chicks end up in some unusual locations. The appearance of a third chick did not go unnoticed by our astute blog readers and camera watchers. The newbie caused quite a stir and it didn’t take long for my email to light up with blog comments (I do read each and every one). I called a couple of neighbors who have nests near their homes to see if anyone was missing a fledging, and then contacted our osprey experts. Here is an excerpt from my email to them:
A wayward fledgling landed in our nest! So now we have three young ones in the nest! I wonder if the interloper will leave? Audrey has been feeding the new arrival, much to the chagrin of the camera watchers/blog readers. The comments are on fire!!
Here is the response from our ever-clever Dr. Spitzer:
Yes. “Visitation” occurs among adolescent ospreys–and they are often tolerated. Surely many of your watchers have kids, and can relate to this? (Though they don’t feed their friends Raw Fish.) So your Osprey Cam reveals more Osprey Science, and the range of “Normal” behavior.
So it is good to know that Dr. Spitzer feels that having a third youngster show up is normal. It may be normal, but it has never happened to us in the twenty years we have had our nest. When I looked out on Monday morning and saw Number Three take a short flight and come right back to our nest, I knew E.T. was here to stay. I refer to him as E.T. until we figure out what to do for a name. There have been mixed reactions from our blog commenting crowd, ranging from those of you that are very welcoming to our new buddy to those of you who wish E.T. would phone home for directions and head out. But like it or not, he is here to stay (I am choosing the masculine pronoun for convenience sake, not because I know his true gender). I am not saying he is a welcome addition to everyone, but everything should work out fine in the end. Tom has been a fantastic provider, and I think the fish will just keep on coming!
When Craig Koppie was here on Friday, he told us that he thought Maine and Montana would be flying within two weeks of the banding, which was July 17. We have been seeing some flapping going on, so Mr. Koppie is right on target. My uneducated opinion is that E.T. is probably no more than a couple of weeks older than our chicks, so Maine and Montana should be right behind him and close to fledging.
There have been many questions popping up in the blog comments, and I will try to answer some of them. A recurring one concerns the true identity of our chicks, specifically if they are blood siblings or not. We asked Mr. Koppie that question, and his response is that there is no way to really tell (short of DNA testing, I suppose, which is not and will not be an option). I will ask him about the chicks at the foster incubation nest when next we meet, which should be soon.
I want to share a couple of quick stories with you. We have the advantage here at the secret location of being able to see a panorama of what is going on outside of the nest. E.T. has mastered the art of flying quite nicely. When he is not in the nest, one of his favorite spots is the swim ladder on our neighbor’s dock two houses to the south of us. Another preferred spot has become the electric box on the end of our dock, one of Tom Number Two’s favorite dining locations. I can usually spot E.T. somewhere in the area if he is not in residence. But when Tom comes flying back to the nest with a fish, no matter where E.T. is, he comes blasting back to the nest like a man (bird?) with a mission. It is quite comical to see him screaming across the water as fast as he can fly to get back to the nest for chow. He reminds me of a dog or cat running to the food bowl when you start rattling the kibble container!
The other interesting tidbit I wanted to point out is something else I have never seen before this week. Tom has brought a couple of fish back to the nest that have been the top half with an intact head to the middle, and not the usual back half complete with tail that we usually see.
One additional behavior that I have been seeing quite regularly is Tom sitting on top of the camera. Both of our other Toms used the top of the camera quite regularly, but it seems to have taken Calico Tom longer to figure out this good place from where to admire his kingdom!
Here are some photos that were mostly taken since the last blog was published. Remember, you can click on each photo to enhance your viewing pleasure. I hope you like them!
These next three photos were taken before the last blog was published, but I like them. You can really see the chick’s heads in the second one:
Many of you have commented about possible intruders disturbing our osprey family. There are many different reasons for the commotion you sometimes see and hear in the nest. Here is an example of what might be going on around the nest to cause the alarm:
I am always on the look out for interesting photograph opportunities to share with you. I snapped this photo of Tom on our next door neighbor’s dock to the north of us. His catch did not go unnoticed by a hungry gull:
I guess I got too close for comfort, and Tom took off with his fish to our next door neighbor’s dock on the other side of us:

After Tom left our next door neighbor’s dock to the north of us, he headed for our next door neighbor’s dock to the south of us.
First a sea gull, now a freeloading crow:
It has become a tradition for the Crazy Osprey Family to host the good folks from the Chesapeake Conservancy at a happy hour dock party. We ended up with twenty six people at the end of the dock, and fortunately, no one in the drink. Here is a photo from that event that took place last week. You might recognize the electric box and boat lift from other photos:

Third Annual Happy Hour Dock Party with the folks from the Chesapeake Conservancy. Tom, Audrey and the kids were watching from nearby.
Here is a photo of E.T. getting ready to land in the nest and upset the proverbial apple cart:
Still learning to land gracefully:
One more landing photo:
We have had some really uncomfortable weather, but Audrey sure knows how to shade’m:

Did anyone watch ET Mac Oliver, MD feeding Montana (I think) around 1:00? It went on for a little while and I got a screen shot, but don’t see any way to post a picture on here. Maine (I think) was completely disinterested.
IT WAS MAINE EATING.WITH IT !! THE GLUTEN IS STILL THERE, FLY AWAY FOR AWHILE !!
Audrey had that piece of fish and it was like she was calling for E.T. after Maine and Montana had their fill. He cam barreling in, and as he was eating it he fed Maine some bites. That was awesome to see, E.T. is gonna make a very good daddy one day.
Our newest child repeatedly pulled off a piece of fish and allowed his or her sibling to take the fish from his beak. Audrey just quietly observed. It was a pretty picture of family life.
IT WAS PRETTY NICE TO SEE THE OFFERING OF THE BITES. WHEN THEY ARE FULL, THEY ARE MORE EVEN TEMPERED, SO THAT WAS REALLY COOL !! MOST OF US ARE LIKE THAT , AS WELL !!~~
ET and Maine are dining together! ET takes a bite of fish which HE took from Audrey and Maine tries to snatch the bite from ET’s beak…too funny:-)
Donna, I saw that too. Hallelujah!!! Maine is stepping it up (i.e. exhibiting signs that one day he may be the big kahuna). How rude of ET to eat inches away from little Maine’s face. But as noted, Maine tried to grab almost every bite from ET’s beak. ET begrudgingly fed Maine a few bites. I like how Maine did not let ET enjoy the meal to himself. And at the end of the fish, Maine got into a tug of war with ET over the tail. Glad to see, Maine be assertive.
Looks like they are all waiting for more fish. Montana got next to nothing out of the last one.
Great view of the family right now ! Even E.T. seems at peace. Very serene !
MONTANA, WAS ON A BREAK, LOUNGING BREAK, SO THAT IS GOOD, IF REALLY HUNGRY, WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE !!! SO FAR SO GOOD !!!
SHOULD HAVE SAID LIKE ROSS AND RACHEL, FROM FRIENDS TV SHOW, ~~~ YOU KNOW LOUD. ON A BREAK !!! THAT WAS ONE PRETTY GOOD SHOW, I STILL WATCH IT BEFORE I GO TO BED, TO RID MYSELF OF ALL THE AWFUL WORLD NEWS, AND PEOPLE !!! OH WELL ENOUGH OF THAT !!!
Many thanks to Mrs. COM and the entire CO family, as well as the Conservatory and all those involved in the osprey project. Your blog updates are always appreciated and helpful, and just seeing the water below (not to mention occasional rainfall!) is refreshing, living here in the desert as I do. I have really enjoyed following this nest and several others from around the world for several years now.
This latest episode of “As the Nest Turns” is indeed taking us on an unexpected ride but so far it looks as if the ending may be a happy one for all parties involved. I am going to suppress my urge to get in there and dole out the fish in equal measure (as if I could do that anyway, right?); instead I’ll just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Uta Große on the Chesapeake Conservancy facebook page under “Posts to Page” said she is working on a video of the Fledgling and Maine with the last fish. She was surprised to see the Fledgling feeding Maine too. She’ll be posting the video when it’s finished so check there from time to time. Since it’s open to the public, you don’t have to be a FB member to read the comments or watch the video, but have to be a member to post comments.
I am not sure why all my comments have been excluded from your blog. And since they have, I am sure this one will be as well. I have for years been an active supporter of this nest.I have made my support and enthusiasm for it known in many other circles. I am saddened that my enthusiasm and love for all involved is deemed not good enough to post on your blog. I do not get it and I will refrain from making my comments known in the future. You just lost an avid supporter. A good thing ospreys do not act like some humans.
Cynthia, all of your comments today have come in needing to be moderated, I do not know why. I have no control over what WordPress posts and does not post without moderation, and have no idea why many of the comments come in needing to be moderated before they are posted. Most of the comments are posted by WordPress without any delays. I talked about this moderation problem earlier in the season when other readers were having the same problem. I stayed up until after 2:00 am to get this blog published, then left for work at 6:30 am. I cannot read my emails when I am working, so just got home from a long day at work to a vast quantity of emails/comments to go through. Nothing has been purposefully excluded. I spend much of my free time, of which I do not have much, tending to osprey-related items. I take great offense in you suggesting that I act in any way other than doing the best I can for my family, my home and our ospreys. Your statement “A good thing ospreys do not act like some humans” has hurt me badly, what a shallow, mean thing to say when you have no idea why your comments were not posted. So if you feel the need to withdraw from watching our camera and reading my blogs, so be it. I have enjoyed your comments and participation over the years, but your hurtful comments have no place here. Mrs. COM
Mrs. COM, I have been the “victim” of ‘exclusion’ on other sites for a whole lot of STUPID reasons. It seems I’ve been “tagged” on one particular site and EVERY SINGLE post I send gets sent to the “awaiting moderation” by the Volunteer Osprey Monitor who operates 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m. My posts IF they show up at all don’t show up until some 14 hours later. I got read the ‘riot act’ (we’re both old enough to know what that means 🙂 ) for trying to post information about our historically significant fostering program! Very frustrating to say the least! Yet, other regular posters’ comments pop-up within seconds…
I truly hope, Mrs. COMomma (LOVE that), that the frustration voiced above was as a result of not understanding that this site isn’t the only thing you have to do in life and there is no constant ‘monitoring’ going on. Some sites have a “Comment Policy” clearly posted on the site. It will usually tell posters the what/how regarding posts. For example as explained above, you aren’t available 24/7 and WordPress kicks some posts into the queue for unknown reasons. Something like that would be helpful.
To Cynthia: I hope you’ve gotten a little better understanding of the workings of this blog. BTW, the vast majority of humans are BETTER than ALL ospreys! Humans have emotions; ospreys are hard-wired in/for what they do/don’t do. For example, osprey parents will do NOTHING to stop siblicide (the murder of one chick by it’s nest mate). I’ve seen this on multiple nests this year alone! Mrs. COM’s devotions to this nest and us is unimpeachable. You really owe her an apology.
Cynthia, please don’t be like that, Mrs. COM has talked about it in the past but for some reason some folks’s comments do not publish and/or they go to her for moderation, she’s not sure why. I know, I use WordPress for my blog also, my sister and I have experienced the same problems.
As you can tell from everyone’s comments they are varied and expressive. I hope you find it in your heart to come back, I have found the COF to be very forgiving of all of us.
I’m adding my thanks to you, Mrs. Com I just read your e-mail. Well, the visiting chick is REALLY being accepted now by all the watchers! Sharing food with Maine, who was always the Shy One, shows he/she appreciates the welcome it received. If I’m remembering correctly, after Breezy fledged last year, we saw little of him except at mealtimes. This new visitor seems to love the nest and spends so much time there, sort of assumimg the job of big brother. (Like Mrs. COM I tend to think of him as male.)
Hi Everyone! Mrs. COM, you’ve done it again, another great blog entry with fantastic photos, I love the one with the two little chicks heads looking up toward Audrey. ET is a great name for our new family member, which I think could stand for Eats all the Time too.
Thank you for posting my picture for the “Where in the World are Tom and Audrey” photos, my husband had the idea because he knows I always get up early to get photos of the sunrise’s when we’re at the beach. That’s also where my interest in Osprey first began years ago, we stayed at Fager’s Island where there was a nest right on the water that John Fager had erected. I couldn’t stop watching them, It was and still is very fascinating. Thank goodness Tom and Audrey have much cleaner surroundings because the nest at Fager’s gets so full of trash, even beer cans, it’s crazy the stuff they pick up.
This is really the only nest I watch when time allows and I peep in on the Falcon site occassionally, I do believe these web-cams have increased our awareness of people to their enviornment and how important it is to keep our waterways as clean as possible, we have to be good stewarts for future generations and the wildlife that depends on it everyday. End of sermon…thank you COF so much.
Lillie, Loved the sunrise “Where in the world tis Tom and Audrey” pic taken down the ocean, hon!
I could smell the air and hear the waves. Thanks for the above narrative
The visitor is pushing his way into getting the fish from Audrey. She was feeding Maine, I believe, and he/she just bulldozed Audrey out of the way to get his fill. I think we need another fish, Tom.Didn’t notice if Montana got any of it.
Just peeked in to see Audrey feeding the last of fish #6 (unless I missed a fish) to the chicks including the Fledgling. Since Audrey had the fish, I’ll assume she had control of it the whole time and was doing the feeding. I know the Fledgling wants the fish all to himself, but that didn’t happen this time and Audrey had control of it.
Tom just brought in a nice size fish, Audrey and E.T. battled for control of the new fish. Audrey won (YAY) and is now feeding the Brady Bunch. She showed ET who’s queen of the nest!
ET is a good name..I had suggested Cousin “IT” as we do not know the sex..a few people liked that. I want to THANK YOU though for keeping us updated and providing education to those of us that are Newbies. I have now become addicted to Osprey’s along with owls and Bald Eagles……nothing is getting done around the house–but that is ok when there is such a wonderful world of nature around us. I know alot of people have expressed “anger” or been upset for the new kid. And even though he seems to grab the food (and tom’s leg) first-it is a lesson to the yonger ones on how to survive on their own. They are watching him intently learning as they go. Yesterday though (7-22-15), ET/IT really proved he was worth the food. He let out a warning cry for an intruder that Audrey had not seen–he alerted her and the chicks–who immediatly went into flat out -no movement mode. He then help sound the alarm to keep the danger away. It was amazing to watch. Nature is so awesome! Are there postings up for “slow wake ” areas / nesting area or to keep power boats away? Thank you and your family and all who help !!
Tom just brought another fish. Visitor and Audrey had a tug-o-war over it. Audrey won out!
what a tug of war ! Audrey won !
Woop! Woop!!!! Yaaaas!!!!! I was cheering Audrey on all the while! Show E.T. who’s BOSS in your own home, girl! Best thing I’ve seen all day. Thanks Audrey!
Fish at 4:44. Funny stuff. Mac crash landed on the nest, squealing loudly, Maine began squealing, Tom approached the nest from the front of the camera view. He landed, everyone went nuts, Mac bullied his way past Audrey to grab the fish and take it away. Audrey went right up to him and latched onto the fish, they play tug-of-war, Audrey warded it off and the feeding is now a free-for-all.
Fish #7 just brought into nest. Audrey has it and is feeding all 3. She gave a big chunk to ET and Maine tried to pull it out of his beak! So funny to see quiet Maine trying to steal it from ET. We’ll see if Audrey can hold onto this fish without ET getting it.
SHE HAS CONTROL SO FAR AND FEEDING THE BABIES, PEST IS JUST GLARING AT THEM !!
Visitor is playing nice and showing his manners now that Audrey is in charge of the fish. M&M are taking bites from the fish. Audrey feeding all.
It’s a picnic with manners. Play nice, ET, and you’ll get your share.
So how did ET end up with the fish?
AUDREY FED THEM FULL, AND LET IT TAKE IT !!
Yes he took it , can’t wait his turn.
Thank you for the response Mrs COM. I apologize for hurting you because I know how that feels and I could not understand why I was being censored when I have been an avid supporter. I will continue to support your efforts and hope you take my olive leaf. Thanks.
Olive leaf accepted, Cynthia. Please enjoy our camera and blogs. If one (or all) of your comments isn’t posted and goes into moderation, please know I didn’t have anything to do with it and will approve it as soon as I get a chance. Thanks, Mrs. COM
OK I get what happened now. A good lesson for me in not reacting till I know the whole story. Been a rough year. Still no excuse. Thanks for accepting my apology.
Congrats, Cynthia! I’m glad you were able to get some further info about how the site works and sometimes doesn’t work. I really appreciated seeing your response. Go, girl!
MRS COM, PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING NEGATIVE TOWARDS YOURSELF. SO SORRY HER POST HAVE NOT BEEN SHOWING, IT HAPPENED TO ME LAST YEAR, AND SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT LET ME NOW.PLEASE LET ME APOLOGIZE FOR A POOR CHOICE OF COMMENTS MADE TO YOU, YOU DO NOT NEED THAT,IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, WE WOULD NOT HAVE THIS GREAT EXPERIENCE. CARRY ON DEAR, AND IF YOU NEED SOME MEDS, LET ME KNOW, SOMETIMES PEOPLE ON HERE GO AFTER ME TOO. I JUST BRUSH IT OFF !!! TRY TO DO THAT !!! YOU ROCK !!!~~~~~~~~~~~
Reading some of the posts that appeared re: posted comments. The people that run this cam obviously work very hard to maintain the integrity of this site, as well as the hard work they perform, and their efforts show. It will not always work perfectly. I love what I see here and I can only imagine the dedication involved. Please keep up your efforts and love for the birds ! It’s greatly appreciated !!!
I LOVE YOU COM Family and Maine and Montano and ET and the whole world for letting me into your lives! ❤️💕💗💝💞💖💓💜💙💚💛💘. 🌍🌎🌏. Ps can I come to your next deck party? I make some good frozen summer drinks!🍓🍓🍓🍷🍷🍷. Thanks again!
Come on, Maureen! Our next Full Moon Dock Party is July 31! We will have the blender plugged in for you! Oh, but you are in Cape Cod! We will be up there in August, one of our favorite places in the whole wide world, and we have been to many! Thanks for your continued support of our blogs and ospreycam. Mrs. COM
WHAT ABOUT THIS FISH, TOM DELIVER IT, AND WHO ATE ?? ANYONE KNOW ???
Hey Kathy. Only thing left is the tail and ET is trying to finish it on his own. He is picking at it, then trying to eat the whole taill Just doesn’t go down real easy! Too funny.
Audrey fed both chicks while our new friend watched quietly. When the fish was almost gone, he made his move and took most of it away from her. The two of them finished off what was left while Maine and Montana settled down (I’m sure Tom hopes) for the night. Tom has done a masterful job of fishing today.
JANE, WHEN THE FISH WAS ALMOST GONE, SHE LET IT TAKE IT, SO GLAD YOU SAW THEM GET FED. TOM HAS HIS TALONS FULL, HE HAS DONE A GREAT JOB !! EVERYONE OF THEM ARE LARGE NOW, AND IT TAKES A LOT. MISS LILLIE 7 FISH IS CORRECT I THINK, AND TOM HAS DONE A GREAT JOB, WE MIGHT KEEP HIM.WHAT DO YOU THINK ???? IT IS COOLER HERE TONIGHT, HOW ABOUT THERE ?? THE COOLER THE BETTER FOR THEM, HYDRATION WISE. HOPE OUR TOM CAN KEEP THIS UP, UNTIL AUDREY MAKES IT CATCH IT’S OWN FISH. LOVE SEEING THE BABIES GETTING SOME SPUNK, BUT WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT, THEY WERE SO SPOILED, SO FAST, IT LITERALLY HAS BEEN A SHOCK, TO THEM, AND US !!! PRAYERS FOR OUR TWO AUDREY’S, AND TWO TOM’S, EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT I MEAN BY THAT. GLAD THINGS ARE BETTER FOR CYNTHINIA, AS WELL. I AM NOT ON MEDS RIGHT NOW, HOPE ALL STAYS CALM FOR A BIT !!
Thank you Kathy. You know I think one reason the chicks are low key even more than usual is because first they got captured and put in the nest. Secondly they got captured and banded. I notice the 2 chicks are dropping like pancakes in the nest over the slightest noises. They are probably reacting because of what they have been through. Same thing with ET (I hope ET gets a terrific name to go with it’s incredible personality.) I agree with the writer that thinks ET doesnt really say it. I think ET is probably not being as aggressive and she/he could be that way because it knows this isn’t it’s home nest. And you have to behave more when it’s not your birth family…lol. Well at least that is the way I am :)) I love this family! I truly believe this nest is blessed.
YOU WOULD THINK I COULD SPELL NAMES BETTER, NOT SO. THE CHICKS DROP WHEN THAT ALARM AUDREY GIVES GOES OFF. I REMEMBER HER OTHER CHICKS DID THE SAME LAST YEAR. I THINK IT IS SO SMART. THESE HOWEVER TAKE LONGER TO RECOVER FROM IT, SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. THEY ALL SEEM TO BE IN GREAT HEALTH, NO ONE IS STARVING, THANK GOD. I HAVE SEEN AUDREY GO OUT AND CATCH FISH TO FILL IN AT TIMES, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, TOM HAS DONE WELL.THESE BIRDS ARE BEAUTIFUL, PRAYERS, THAT THEY STAY THIS WAY.
Did I read 7 fish deliveries today?? If so, that has to be a record! Tom is amazing, totally amazing!
Wow ! What a beautiful natural picture the birds make. All sitting quiet and peaceful with the beautiful background of the water and sunset. And how about the fishing today ? I think that’s an osprey record ! I look forward to seeing them tomorrow with all their fun behaviors.
Agree! Calico Tom is in a class of his own!
Mrs COM and Osprey Family, thank you for the informative and descriptive blog and allowing us a glimpse of what you see. It really helped me visualize and today made me laugh out loud! I appreciate you giving us a view into this special world. it has been a joy to witness and makes me so appreciate nature in all her glory. It is especially interesting to see how ET has been accepted.
ET is starting to imitate Audrey by balancing and standing on one leg. He/she loses it’s balance, then repeats. The head wagging is priceless……Question: Do adult / fledgling osprey sleep standing up, or do they lay down like Maine & Montana?
I second that emotion.
Kathy B., to answer your question, we’re generally in the seventies at night. Next month, it may be a different story. So far we’ve had a pretty decent summer. Last weekend and Monday were very unpleasant but the rest of the week has been in the eighties with low humidity.
THANKS JANE, WEATHER GIRL !!
Hi KATHY, yes the weather here today was a summer dream, perfect! not too hot at all and a slight breeze, I would have loved to be sailing today, perfectly beautiful day, wish you all could be here.
I had a delightful surprise today, got a chance to speak to featherdog, Thank you for the surprise chat Miss feathdog!
AWESOME, IN PERSON ????????????
WordPress has a mind of it’s own, I deleted fullersisters a month ago and now it pops up again, sorry about that.
SOMETHINGS ARE OUT OF OUR CONTROL, GOOD EXAMPLE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY, MY STOVE DECIDED TO TURN ITSELF ON, I AM, LIKE WHAT ?????? IT WOULD NOT GO OFF, HAD TO TURN THE BREAKER OFF, AND NOW ORDER A PIECE FOR ONE BURNER. WHO KNEW THE STOVE COULD COOK BY ITSELF ??????? NOT ME !! AMAZING !!! IT IS A FLAT GLASS TOP, I HATE IT. THE BAD THING IS IT DID NOT SERVE ANYTHING !!~~~~
Hi KATHY, Good Morning, No it was over the telephone but still very nice.
That sounds scary with the stove, I’ve been thinking about a flat top stove and they are all electric, I’ll have to ask about that because that could be scary if you forget, I always leave a teapot on the stove.
LILLIE, THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU GET GLASS TOP, SO HARD TO KEEP CLEAN AND REGULATE HEAT, BUT I AM A CLEAN FREAK, ON MEDS !!! HAVE A GOOD DAY, N ICE AND COOL HERE THIS MORNING !!~~~~~
I’ve had a glass top stove for 8 years and I LOVE mine. I bought the glass top stove cleaner and it works awesome and in between those cleanings, I use my Norwex rag. Kathy, If you are a clean freak, you would LOVE Norwex if you don’t use one already. My stove has red lights by the burners so you know that the burner is either still on or still hot….maybe you got a faulty one….
The Osprey Cam continues to be a treasure. I keep the cam going on my iPad as darkness sets in. The very last images are the brilliant white chests of Audrey and E.T. as they keep watch over Maine and Montana. It is quite the site! As a former Chester River Osprey “keeper” on our property there, I really appreciate once again being able to be a participant in this incredible nature show. Thank you…
The sun is just setting here in Long Beach and already it is to
dark to see even the white chests of Audrey and Oliver MacGyver
Noticed that Montana is already bigger than O.MG Hum! OMG!
“Oh My Gosh!” I have said that a lot since he showed up.. Hum!
Yes the Tom is certainly a go-getter-fisherman!! Another mouth to feed means more fish. Although remember how it was an assembly line it was earlier? They could not even eat all the fish he brought in! I saw the pics of when they hadn’t even finished a fish they were so full–even Audrey. On FB and here Treed???(forgot name) called the new one Oliver as a suggestion. Mrs COM you all had put that one in originally for the contest as one. Some of us like that name for the new “little lost one”. It will take a while more before Oliver learns to fish everyone. He eats alot because he a teenager and you KNOW how much they eat!!! LOL :). He’s watching Tom and observing the manuevers. The COM family; I wonder if you’ve been able to see any attempts yet since you mentioned seeing him often? I too call it he/him for ease and not for gender. Night all! And Nytol to you Kathy–I know you like your meds, ha ha. Oh and Mary McClure–they sleep standing up. The chicks have not mastered that yet, its a skill, maybe the muscles aren’t strong enough? I’ve notice the head bobbing after eating–I think they are pushing food from crops to the stomach and its so cute. I laughed so much regarding the “As the Nest Turns” :).
I do not sleep standing up so like the chicks I’m off to bed and will lie flat. Tomorrow another adventure!
Good morning all ! I awake to the beautiful morning setting with Audrey feeding Montana and Maine. Fish already ! Can’t wait to see what the day brings. No sign of E.T. right now. What a beautiful day here on Long Island. I’m sure the same there ! Let’s hope our little family, well not so small anymore, enjoys fish all day !
Hey Renee! A shout out to Long Island! We live in central Maine now, but hail from Farmingdale – watching these birds on the water every day helps me when I am missing the beach. Good morning to everyone else – what a fishing day for Tom yesterday! One for the books as we seem to keep saying this year.
erp – we live in central Maryland – was thinking of my little buddy……..
Thank you, LInda, for responding to the osprey sleeping positions….just curious if they hunker down to sleep or sleep standing up (with one eye open lately)! LOL!
I laughed at that one too, “As The Nest Turns”, good name for this Osprey Reality Show!
Alternative title: “The Young and the Nestless” 🙂
At this time breakfast by Audrey to Maine and Montana only!😉😉😉
I do not see E.T. did he fly home?
He probably is waiting for Tom to come in with breakfast.: )
Another fish at 6:25. Mac chased in Tom and took the fish. Nobody else seemed too interested as they were already full.
Good thinking Susann. I did not see it but from the prior post it seems like that is what happened. I do see Audrey feeding Maine and Montana now.
Feeding again but sun is too bright to see who is being fed
YEAH TOM, BABIES HAVE BEEN FED !!!

This morning is starting out great ! Let’s keep it up. Nest looks so peaceful and oh how beautiful with the sun on the water 🙂

Welcome to our blog and ospreycam! It was a great evening last night, so glad you were here! COM will savor every bit of the mushroom parmesan spread! Maybe I will even get a little taste. Thanks again, Mrs. COM
This is getting so homie Sp? MUSHROOM PARM SPREAD
need that recipe soon! Love food, Love to cook…Going to
check the Family never can make it up early enough to see
those first feedings
What a beautiful day today on the Bay! I am in Chesapeake Beach Md and it is absolutely stunning! I am also off work today so a big plus! Will be going to pool and beach today, but had to check in on the osprey family first! Maine and Montana are asleep, and look so comfy! Audrey at their side. I read the posts this morning, three fish already! Tom is quite the fisherbird! 🙂
Caught Audrey cleaning up the mess from those
little guys First fish Oliver MacGyver there for a few
then spread those beautiful wings and flew off
M&M , as Kathy B says “in a fish Coma” All is
well at the nest
For the posts about a glass top stove, I LOVE mine, it actually is supposed to have better heat control, and cooks faster, mine is on a Kenmore convection oven. It can be harder to clean the glass top you have to get things off right away and don’t use that burner if it hasn’t been cleaned first! The stuff will bake on! There is a cleaner I use Weiman Glass Cook Top cleaner and polish, along with Weiman scrubbing pads and it cleans it beautifully, with very little work. Just put the cleaner on a COOL stove top w/the scrubbing pads, wait a few minutes and take a clean paper towel to buff off, much like you would wax a car.. I buy it at ACE Hardware. Hope this helps!
Everyone should go buy it from Lombard Hardware!!!! 😉
Aww, thank you Coreygirl….but happily and sadly we are semi-retiring real soon, we are selling out gigantic building but we’ll be opening a small store front where we continue doing our glass work (Stained Glass, Mosaics, window and screen repairs) part time, 4 days a week. But thank you for thinking of us. 🙂
I would if I could, but ACE is only about one mile from my house! Not sure where Lombard Hardware is! 🙂
I have to agree – I also LOVE my glass top stove. It’s so much easier to clean than coils, drip pans, etc. The next best invention behind bagged lettuce!!
Woods hole cam update: There was good feeding over the weekend but no more fish deliveries since Monday, so the experts have taken the remaining chick from the nest and have taken him/her to a rehab facility to be cared for. He/she looked so sad and alone, glad he/she is now being taken care of. Best wishes little one!
Oliver MacGyver having a learning experience.. Feeding Maine a tidbit.
Three for me, one for you.. But still feeding him.. Montana standing by
patiently hoping for a bite also
You guys keep mixing it up, he was snatching food from his beak and did give a few bites to him but that was it.
It’s a start ((-:}}
I agree – I haven’t seen ET feeding; just Maine or Montana snatching a bite whenever able – ET surrendering a bite or two or more!
Fish #4 today was delivered sometime around 10:45 a.m. There was a total of 8 fish delivered to the nest yesterday. Great job Tom! Depending on the size of the fish, a fledgling can easily eat 2 fish a day. Soon Maine & Montana will be eating at least 2 fish per day. Uta said Mac/ET looked wet this morning. Maybe he was testing the water! It’ll be a while before he learns the art of fishing for himself, but at least he got wet! lol That’s a very good sign!
I can’t remember which nest I was watching in 2013 when the chic took off for his first flight. He didn’t return for three or four days. Of course, everyone was worried. When he finally returned to the nest, his Mom gave him a piece of her mind. He then stayed around the nest area where he belonged until he migrated. That could happen with E.T.
Tom just delivered another large fish. Audrey feeding M&M. Visitor must not have seen the delivery, as he has not crashed the party.
