News Flash-Nest Comes Down and Camera Goes Off For 2014!

Good evening from the sometimes hot, sometimes cold Eastern Shore of Maryland.   Tomorrow (11/25/2014) the nest will be coming down and the camera turned off on Tom and Audrey’s 2014 season here in Maryland.  Tune in between 1 and 2 p.m. to say good-bye to another saga in the lives of our resident ospreys, Tom and Audrey.  In addition, Mrs. COM will stop working long enough to write one more blog recapping the 2014 adventures of our favorite osprey couple in words and photos.  The final blog should be posted by the end of Thanksgiving weekend.

  3. Good Job COM!!! When I see how difficult that was to take apart and push away, I see now why it withstands the strong winds and heavy rains. I won’t worry as much next season about them blowing away. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. Lillie

    • COM is a trooper! It was kind of fun to see the marked sticks emerge from the bottom of the pile. Thanks so much for watching the camera and reading our blogs. We look forward to having you back in the spring. The Crazy Osprey Family

    • Happy Day Before Thanksgiving! The nest is taken down for a couple of reasons. First, by taking down the nest, no parasites can winter over. Second, the nest can get very heavy if it is used for multiple seasons. To protect the pole and camera from potentially getting knocked over in a big wind or storm because of too much weight, we take the nest down at the end of every season. Don’t worry, the new nest will be beautiful and big in time for the new brood next year! COM will put out prefab nest sticks in the spring, so there will be plenty of natural and man-made building materials available for Tom and Audrey in March. Thanks for watching the camera and reading our blogs. Mrs. COM

  5. I too loved watching them this year. First year for me and I will return next March to check them out. Thank you for doing this for all of us to watch nature at its best. From little balls of fluff to big, wonderful adults, loved it all. Thank you again. Mitzi

    • Hi, Mitzi! Happy Black Friday. We are so glad you enjoyed watching the camera and reading our blogs. Stay tuned for one more blog to finish out the 2014 season. We will see you in March when we go live for the start of the 2015 season. Mrs. COM
